Principal’s Message- January 2018

Date: January 12, 2018 Author: Julie Fram-Greig Categories: Principal's Message

FROM THE PRINCIPAL: Happy New Year! I hope that everyone has enjoyed a good rest and time together as a family. The staff of Wakefield School wish you a great start as we return from holidays. Just a few reminders as we start back to school again:
Bus Lane and Parent Parking: The front lane is now designated for the buses. Please note that there will be no access to the lane in front of the school by parents, staff or visitors from 7:30am – 8:30am and from 2:00pm- 4:30pm to accommodate buses for the elementary and high school students. Please do not cross in between parked buses. It is very dangerous and difficult to see people when the buses need to move. We are also enforcing this with our students.
Parents can use the lane at the side of the school for parking and drop offs. Please note that the back and side parking lots are prioritized for staff. We remind you to please be careful if you are dropping your child off at the side of the school- be aware of other cars in the lane. Your child can come in to the school through the side door and into the playground if you are dropping them off.

Weather: January in Canada is bringing us all sorts of weather. Please make sure to check the weather and have your child dress accordingly. We almost always go outside!

Staff Changes: We are having some changes in staff in January- Allysun Welburn will be leaving us to go on maternity leave as of January 12th and we wish her the very best! Replacing her will be Alison Murdock who is currently doing Cycle 1 resource. Alison will take over Allysun’s duties as of January 15th. And we welcome Natasha Stobert who will be doing the cycle 1 resource starting this week.

Remind App: https://www.remind.com/join/77f7ch
The Remind App is a great one-way communication tool for quick messages and updates like school closures or inclement weather. You can get the Remind message through a text message or email. When we need to communicate to parents, we will send a message through Remind and also an email to ensure that
everyone gets the message. It is optional to use the app. Please follow the link above for directions on how to sign up. For more information about the Remind App, please visit Remind.com.

Daycare Rate Increase/Ski Club: Please note effective January 1st the Ministry has increased the daily daycare rate to $8.20. Don’t forget that ski club starts this week and will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays weather permitting.
