Extra Curricular Activities

Lunch Hour activities:

There are many activities that your child may participate in at school. Some are for all ages, some for specific age groups; some are free, some have a fee.  Any information about activities will come home in the monthly newsletter.  These activities are often run by teachers at lunch for which they volunteer their time. Here are some of the activities offered:

  • intramural sports
  • I “heart” my art
  • guitar and violin lessons
  • choir
  • Me To We club for global issues awareness
  • Wolf Girls running club
  • knitting club

There are also opportunities for senior students to be involved in different school board initiatives, such as Destination Imagination, Music Makers, Debating and Concours d’Art Oratoire.

School Teams at Wakefield:

The Western Quebec School Board’s elementary schools organize and host interschool sports. These events are open to Cycle 3.2 students, however, cross country and regional Track & Field events allow students aged 8 and up to participate. Tournaments include: cross country, football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, track and field.

The organization of these events is set by a WQSB committee of teachers who meets each fall who determine dates, locations and parameters for each tournament. Our school team is chosen from those who participate in intramural teams at lunch and are coached by teachers.

Sportsmanship, commitment, attitude and behaviour take precedence over ability for a place on the teams.

Field Trips:

Every class has the opportunity to experience a field trip each year with their teachers, and parent volunteers are most welcome. As well, there are many times throughout the year when special guests are invited into the school, such as artists and musicians, guest speakers and presenters, and special events.
